Chicago Cops Slam Jussie Smollett for Faking Attack Because He Was "Dissatisfied" With "Empire" Salary

February 21, 2019

Jussie Smollett staged his homophobic and racist attack allegedly because he was "dissatisfied with his salary" on Empire, Chicago police superintendent Eddie Johnson said during an emotionally charged press conference on Thursday. "When we discovered the actual motive, quite frankly, it p**sed everybody off, because we have to invest valuable resources," a visibly angry Johnson added. He also alleged that the actor sent himself a slur-filled letter in the mail before the incident occurred and that he paid brothers Ola and Abel Osundairo $3,500 to carry out the fake assault. Police even suspect that the bruises and scratches on Smollett's face were self-inflicted. "This publicity stunt was a scar that Chicago didn't earn and certainly didn't deserve," Johnson declared. "This announcement today recognizes that Empire actor Jussie Smollett took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career," Johnson said. "Why would anyone, especially an African-American man, use the symbolism of a noose to make false accusations? How could someone look at the hatred and suffering associated with that symbol and see an opportunity to manipulate that symbol to further his own public profile?" Smollett has been charged with felony disorderly conduct for filing a false police report and turned himself early Thursday.
